Scammers Use Telegram to Deploy Wallet-Draining Malware
Recently, Blockchain Security Scam Sniffer discovered that an increasing number of cryptocurrency users are falling victim to scams related to malicious Telegram bots. Verification bots such as “OfficiaISafeguardBot” provide potential victims with the opportunity to download malware that adversely affects their wallets. Fraudsters invite users into Telegram channels, give them quick access to information no one else has, and then request account authentication. The bot introduced an invalid launch of PowerShell, allowing developers to access private keys. Scam Sniffer has reported scams with losses exceeding $3 million. This shift to a new “scammer self-service” model using fake X accounts and Telegram is indicative of the increasing risk of cryptocurrency.
