Pro-XRP Lawyer Slams SEC’s Crenshaw as ‘Disgrace’ As Senate Panel Delays Vote
Democrat Caroline Crenshaw’s nomination for re-election as SEC commissioner faces a new setback. A planned vote on the Senate Banking Committee was delayed after Senate Banking Committee Chairman Sherrod Brown postponed a vote scheduled for Wednesday morning after Republican members of the committee arrived. Republican senators blocked Brown’s request to waive procedural rules and hold a vote later in the day, according to Senate aides.
The delay, which pushed Crenshaw’s vote to the afternoon, conflicts with a Senate rule that limits committees from convening until two hours after the Senate is in session, or 2:00 p.m. ET. The exemption would have allowed the vote to proceed, but Republicans, at the direction of senior Sen. Tim Scott, blocked the exemption.
As a result, Brown will need to reschedule the vote, although it’s unclear when that will happen. Requests for comment are pending.
According to Fox Business News reporter Eleanor Treat, “This is why people hate Washington,” Brown said. “Corporate special interests have launched a disgusting smear campaign against Caroline Crenshaw, an Army reservist.” “
In response to Brown’s statement, pro-XRP attorney John Deaton criticized Caroline Crenshaw’s actions, accusing her of advocating ignoring the appeals court that oversees the SEC. Deaton argued that as a member of the SEC, Crenshaw could not claim to uphold the rule of law but ignore the rule of law when it was inconsistent with her views. He called her behavior a “disgrace” and claimed it insulted her oath.
