Vitalik Buterin To Adopt Viral Hippo Moo Deng, Donates $300K To The Zoo
In the latest development, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said he will accept an invitation to become the “adoptive father” of pygmy hippopotamus Moo Deng when she grows up. He shared in an X post on Thursday that he also donated 10 million baht ($300,000) to the Khao Kheow Open Zoo near Bangkok, where the 5-month-old lives. He revealed that two donations will be made, amounting to 5 million baht, and the first donation will be made on December 26. The donations, made in Moo Deng’s name, will be used to upgrade the zoo’s general operations and create a dedicated pygmy hippo habitat within the park. A memecoin she inspired, MOODENG on Solana, became equally popular after being listed on Binance and Coinbase, and its market value exceeded US$600 million in November.
