Animoca Brands Co-Founder Yat Siu’s X Account Hacked in Crypto Scam – Users Warned
The X (formerly Twitter) profile of Animoca Brands co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu has been hacked in a cyber attack. Scammers used the account to promote the newly launched fake Animoca Brands token, causing a stir in the global cryptocurrency community.
one Network 3 Animoca Brands, the investor whose official X account was hacked, said users should not communicate with fake accounts or purchase any tokens associated with hacked profiles.
Hackers announced that Animoca Brands is launching a new token called “ANIMOCA.” After the hacker posted a promotional post, the value of the token increased dramatically fivefold within minutes, before falling back after the post was removed.
Security breaches and responses
Speaking on his behalf through a secondary account, Yat Siu said the hack was real, adding that the attackers had passed Two-factor authentication (2FA). He notifies X’s support staff of the security incident and offers to report other weaknesses found in X’s security system.
Animoca Brands reiterated in an official statement:
It’s worth noting that Animoca Brands has yet to launch any official tokens or NFTs. Contrary to everything the hacker said in his post, the token issuance on Solana is the invention of an imposter. They plead not to interact with the account and to exercise caution.
Although he uses 2FA to protect his account, Yat Siu’s account was hacked, so X’s security is of concern.
