Crypto scammers Steal $2M from New Yorkers Promising Remote Jobs
Scammers targeted New York residents with fake remote job opportunities and stole more than $2 million in cryptocurrency. Victims are instructed to purchase stablecoins such as USDT and USDC on platforms such as Coinbase and send them to non-custodial wallets. Scammers convince them to write fake reviews for non-existent products in exchange for promised job opportunities. New York Attorney General Letitia James, along with the Queens District Attorney and the U.S. Secret Service, are working to recover the funds, some of which have been frozen. One victim lost $100,000. James urged New Yorkers to be wary of questionable job offers and to report any scams to her office.
