Ripple Stablecoin RLUSD Gets NYDFS Approval for Launch
Ripple Labs’ RLUSD has been approved by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) Stablecoin.
CEO Brad Garlinghouse confirmed the development on December 10, adding that the company would soon disclose exchange and partner listings for the asset.
Ripple stablecoin challenges Tether and Circle dominance
Ripple first announced plans for RLUSD in April, positioning it as a competitor to Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC. By August, Ripple began testing stablecoins on XRP Ledger and the Ethereum mainnet.
In October, the company announced partnerships with major exchanges including Uphold, Bitstamp, Bitso, MoonPay, Independent Reserve, CoinMENA, and Bullish. Ripple executives expect RLUSD’s market value to reach $2 trillion by 2028.
“This just… we received final approval from NYDFS for RLUSD! The exchange and partner list will be live soon – and a reminder: you will be hearing from Ripple first when RLUSD goes live,” Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
