SEC Delays Decision on BlackRock’s Spot Ethereum ETF Options Until April
In the latest developments, the U.S. SEC delayed BlackRock’s decision to list and trade options on its spot Ethereum Exchange Fund (ETF). The new deadline for the SEC decision is scheduled for April 9, 2025.
SEC explain The document said it will decide on April 9, 2025 whether to approve or disapprove of allowing options trading on the iShares Ethereum Trust, the world’s largest asset manager. The SEC said it will take more time to review the proposed rule changes and consider issues raised before a decision is made.
“The Commission considers that an extended period issuance of an order to approve or deny a proposed rule change so that it has sufficient time to consider the proposed rule change and the issues raised therein,” the agency said.
Blackrock’s live Ethereum ETF was approved in May and trading began in the summer. In August, Nasdaq, on behalf of BlackRock, submitted a rule change to peer to the list and trade options of iShares Ethereum Trust.
Two letters were submitted about the proposal of Nasdaq. First, from a better market, warn SECs to be careful and then allow options trading of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs due to their volatility.
